Installation of Carrier
Track Cables

1. Choose the correct cable for your application:
C&M industrial cables are specifically designed to perform in harsh environments and high-flex applications.
Our cables have been engineered with attention to temperature, chemical resistance and type of motion.
When choosing a cable for an industrial application please refer to C&M specifications and/or contact C&M engineering for information.

2. Bend Radius:
Do not exceed the minimum bend radius specified by C&M for the cable.
Bend radius must be determined based on the largest diameter component in the carrier.

3. Installing cable in a cable carrier or "C-Track":
Unwind cable from outer layer or reel. Never pull cable over reel's flange. (See Figure 1 below)
Before the cable is installed it should be laid flat or hung for 24 hours. This will eliminate the cable tendency to curl an have memory after storage on a reel or in a bundle. Cable must always be installed without twists or bends.
Install cable loosely. Do not twist cable during installation. This will allow the cable to move freely and not bind against the track.
The cable should not be laid on top of or in direct contact to another cable in the carrier. Use track dividers and allow for a minimum clearance of 10% of the cable diameter. Distribute weight evenly across distance of the track. Larger diameter or heavier cables should be laid towards the outside. (See Figure 2 below)
Run machine to ensure correct installation. Cable should be allowed to have complete freedom of movement within the bend radius

4. Clamping cable into position:
Cable should be clamped at both ends of cable carrier. Clamps must be located 10 to 15 X Cable Diameter from the carriers first point of flex. (See Figure 3 below). Never pull cable tight before clamping into Boston. Do not tie or clamp cable to the track. Be sure to firmly secure clamps without crushing cable inner core.
The Static or "Inactive" point of the cable should be mounted in the center of the Carrier Travel. This will allow for the minimum amount of cable needed between the static point and moving point for the application. (See Figure 3 below)
