The dramatic increase in short distance transmissions of bandwidth-gobbling graphics is pushing designers towards a high performance multimode fiber that can transmit 850nm serial 10GB Ethernet applications up to 300 meters. Conventional 50/125 glass, referred to as OM2 50/125 glass, will perform only up to ~82 meters with 10 GB serial Ethernet transceivers. The new OM3 grade 50/125 fiber optic glass is backwards compatible with the conventional 50/125 glass. For special applications, there is one grade available that can function to 550 meters. Most OEMs color the cable for this OM3 fiber optic glass an aqua color to differentiate it from the old orange OM2 cables. C&M can supply either orange (the older OM2 version glass) or the OM3 aqua product with conventional duplex LC or Uniboot LC connectors to fit your needs.
